If you're sick and tired of the flood of flashy images and junk software posing as holy grail strategies online, then you have finally found the right place here. My name is Ryan Johnson (no, not the famous film director) and I'm the sole owner and member of Silk Road Trading, LLC. I've traded amost every type of financial instrument from home, beginning in 1999.

I'm a skeptic and a pessimist, and industry "professionals" might even say that I border on nasty. When I look at a chart, I see millions of people trying to take my money. I have never been a institutional trader. That's why I love the challenge of taking their money in the markets.

I cannot empasize enough the importance of computer code in having made me into a successful trader. When I was drawing syntax images on an Apple IIe in grammar school, I never dreamed that I would be writing trading algorithms and trading full-time (well, at least my robots are doing so).

The reason that 90% of traders fail (this includes "professionals") is either: (1) they don't have a well defined strategy, or (2) they can't follow a well defined strategy. If you don't have a strategy without gray areas in it, you really don't have a strategy. What about intuition? An intuition is a feeling which is simply an emotion that can't be quantified (measured). Even if you have a well defined strategy, it's worthless if you're unable to manually follow its rules. Such an inability is caused, again, by emotions.

If you're still reading this, you've probably guessed that I'm a technical trader. Well done! I do not trade news events, period. A well written purely technical strategy will capture, and potentially even front-run, a price spike caused a news event. Although it's possible to assign weights to news events by measuring the statistical correlations between simultaneous new releases and price spikes, I have no need for those additional variables. Put more accurately, I'm a statistical trader.
